Byron Bounds

How did you get into senior living?

Caring and service for others have been something of a calling from a very young age. Whether doling out my mother’s groceries to kids in the neighborhood or getting caught trying to foster a “rescued” nest full of abandoned goose eggs on my closet floor, I’ve just always had a strong impetus to take care of others. As a nurse’s aide at the age of 17, I discovered an almost sublime sense of satisfaction in comforting those who were weak, aging, or ill. A few years later, as a nurse, the opportunity to be a resource of expertise, an example of advocacy, and a source of compassionate strength would spur a passion for servant leadership. As a leader, making a difference in the lives of those who have paved the way for us, their families, and the teams that serve them affords me a soul-deep level of fulfillment that lets me rest knowing I’ve left the world better than I found it. So why did I get into senior living? It’s my privilege and my purpose.

Who truly inspires you?

Though many have been inspiring over the course of my career, I must unabashedly admit that my greatest inspiration comes from my little girl. My journey has been blessed by the wisdom, talent, and expertise of many, but none so profoundly as the immaculate mirror my child represents. There’s something about seeing yourself distilled into a tiny package of boundless imagination to keep the flame of inspiration shining brightly.

A thing people would be surprised to know about you?

I love tango.

How did you wind up at Inspired Living?

Despite the enormity of the work we do and the population we serve, it really is a small world. That makes the relationships we nurture of even greater importance. A colleague of mine for whom I have always had great respect called to ascertain my interest in joining the Inspired Living/Validus team. Her endorsement and my research into the make-up of our Inspired family made the decision an easy one I couldn’t be happier with.

What do you want your legacy to be?

I’d like to be known for being generous of spirit, for serving from the heart, for leaving everything I touch better than I found it, for being the best dad EVER, and for occasionally making people laugh so hard they spit out their drink.
